A hip was a part of one's body near the legs and pelvis.

In 2268, Doctor Leonard McCoy warned Captain James T. Kirk that if they didn't get the tribbles off the USS Enterprise, they'd be hip deep in them. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles")

In 2369, Quark put his hand on Kira Nerys's hip, prompting her to threaten him, with personal injury: "If you don't take that hand off my hip, you'll never be able to raise a glass with it again." (DS9: "Emissary")

Being "joined at the hip" was a metaphor for being closely associated with someone. (DS9: "Q-Less"; TNG: "Attached"; VOY: "Timeless") Putting one's hands on one's hips was a sign of impatience. In 2373, in response to the Tak Tak's intolerance, Kathryn Janeway remarked, "I may never put my hands on my hips again". (VOY: "Macrocosm")

In 2374, Quark, after undergoing a temporary sex change, thought his hips were too big. Former Grand Nagus Zek assured him they were fine. (DS9: "Profit and Lace")

Fractures[]

In 2370, Kira sustained a hip fracture, which was mended. When she woke up from an unconscious state, Vedek Bareil cautioned her to be careful. (DS9: "The Siege")

In 2371, Dr. Julian Bashir experienced a broken hip as part of his dream while trapped in his own mind. (DS9: "Distant Voices")

In 2372, Kes diagnosed Teirna with a broken hip. (VOY: "Basics, Part I")
