An honor student was a student who had achieved honors (high marks) in their school classes.
Data graduated Starfleet Academy with honors in exobiology and probability mechanics. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint", "Shades of Gray") In 2366, Captain Jean-Luc Picard referred to Data as USS Enterprise-D's resident honor student in exobiology, giving him the role of heading up the life sciences' contingent in their first contact with Tin Man. In 2369, after Amanda Rogers expressed her amazement at the size of her quarters aboard Enterprise-D, William T. Riker assured her, "For honor students, only the best." (TNG: "True Q")
