Howard Chaykin (born 7 October 1950; age 74) is a comic book artist and writer. He began his career as Gil Kane's assistant and continued on, working with Gray Morrow and Neal Adams. By the early '70s, he was working as a freelance artist for both Marvel and DC Comics. He worked for Heavy Metal magazine, proving to be a strong science-fiction author. This led to illustration duties on the comic adaptation of the first Star Wars movie for Marvel. In 1983, he created American Flagg! for First Comics, the series he is best known for. He created covers for three comics in DC's Star Trek line in the mid-1980s.
