Ensign Hoya was a female Benzite who served on Deep Space 9 in the early 2370s. Her wedding ceremony had been performed by Benjamin Sisko.
She died in 2373, during a mission to the Gamma Quadrant planet Torga IV, when the runabout she was in was destroyed by the Jem'Hadar.
Sisko recalled her name, along with the others whenever he read over the casualty list. Jadzia Dax assured him that Hoya had been proud to wear the Starfleet uniform and serve under him, and she knew the risks when she chose that life (so he needn't feel guilty about her death. (DS9: "The Ship")

Hoya was played by actress Hilary Shepard. She was the first female Benzite seen in Star Trek. While the episode does not explain how she is able to breathe without the atmospheric respirator device used by fellow Benzites Mordock and Mendon, Michael Okuda explained that "there's been some advances in Benzite technology." (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 372)
According to the video game Star Trek: Starship Creator, Hoya was born in the Utva Geostructure on Benzar. Her father is named Oorv and her mother is named Marya. Hoya was married to Ensign Tumaris Jaro in a ceremony performed by Benjamin Sisko. Prior to her service on Deep Space 9, Hoya served aboard the USS Portland and USS LaSalle.
