A hut was a small round house often associated with primitive cultures.

In 2267, James T. Kirk ordered that several incapacitated Vaalians be kept in one of their huts and not be allowed to leave. (TOS: "The Apple")

Like Humans, the Mintakans once lived in caves, but changed to huts. In 2366, Jean-Luc Picard discussed the Mintakans' reasons for changing from caves to huts with Nuria, who supposed that they had done so because huts were brighter and drier than caves.. When asked why they once lived in caves when huts were preferable, she guessed that it was because they didn't know how to make a hut. Picard then suggested that once somebody did so, somebody else later improved on the original design, and taught their descendants, and so on. (TNG: "Who Watches The Watchers")

In 2373, Zio told Harry Kim to get rid of Tom Paris, saying, "as long as that carcass is in my hut, we'll never be able to go on to more important things" (VOY: "The Chute")
