Hyde was an unscrupulous humanoid who lived during the late 24th century.
In 2381, Hyde landed on Frylon IV in his shuttle, the Ladyjane, to purchase a dozen mugato horns from Ferengi poacher Kynk. Their meeting was interrupted by an away team from the USS Cerritos, which led to a fight in which the caged mugatos in Kynk's camp were accidentally released. Chased by a mugato, Hyde took off in the Ladyjane without his merchandise.
While leaving orbit, the Ladyjane was hailed by the Cerritos, as Captain Carol Freeman wished to know if Hyde had encountered her team. Hyde brushed her off, arousing her suspicions and causing her to order a tractor beam on the Ladyjane. Sensing an opportunity, Hyde self-destructed his shuttle and, upon being beamed to the Cerritos, made a spectacle of mourning the loss. Freeman offered him the Joshua Tree in recompense, and Hyde was able to further play on her guilt to acquire numerous other items, including all the decorations in Freeman's ready room.
Freeman was later alerted to the scam by her husband, and caught up with Hyde. In lieu of arrest and incarceration in a Federation penal colony, she gave him the option of "do[ing] some good for a change" at the newly established Kynk's Mugatoland. Hyde accepted, and was put to work shoveling mugato dung. (LD: "Mugato, Gumato")
