Index was a hologram that served as a directory at the Starfleet Archive Museum in the late 24th century.
In 2399, she aided retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard access his personal storage facility and informed him about the late Lieutenant Commander Data's painting Daughter. At one point she responded to one of his queries with a joke; when informed that the archive staff were trying something new with her program, Picard recommended that she not "give up [her] day job."
