Iowa landscape

Iowa in an alternate 2240s.

Iowa was a region located within the interior of the North American continent of Earth and was one of the 52 states in the United States of America. The border states were Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Des Moines was its capital and largest city; other cities located in this state were Ottumwa, Jefferson, and Riverside. The two-letter code for this state was IA. Its motto was, "Our liberties we prize and our rights we maintain". (TNG-R: "The Neutral Zone", okudagram; TNG: "The Royale"; DS9: "Little Green Men"; ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II"; Star Trek)

In an alternate timeline in which Nazi Germany had invaded the United States, as of 1944 Iowa was controlled by American forces. (ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

James T. Kirk was born and raised in Iowa, before eventually moving to Tarsus IV with his father. As a boy, he sang songs around the campfire. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home; SNW: "A Quality of Mercy"; TOS: "The Conscience of the King"; Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)

In an alternate reality, James T. Kirk was raised in Iowa by his mother and stepfather following his birth aboard a medical shuttle of the USS Kelvin in 2233. Iowa was also where that reality's USS Enterprise was built. (Star Trek)

In 2256, a classified facility in Jefferson started producing spore drive units. (DIS: "Choose Your Pain")
