Isolation was the separation of the isolated object/individual and its environment for either medical purposes or as a form of punishment.

In 2153, T'Pol suggested to isolate the two Borg-assimilated Tarkaleans in the decon chamber aboard Enterprise NX-01. (ENT: "Regeneration")

In 2366, communication specialist Tam Elbrun's personnel file showed that he gravitated towards assignments that isolated him from other humanoids. (TNG: "Tin Man")

In 2372, Captain Kathryn Janeway and Commander Chakotay were isolated on a planet in a Delta Quadrant, "New Earth", due to an infection with a terminal illness. (VOY: "Resolutions")

In 2373, Lieutenant Tuvok was the only individual not wearing a lei inside Neelix's Polynesian luau holoprogram. Marayna, calling him out on this, described it as being both a means of isolating himself and a public protest, as he had not wanted to be there in the first place. She later told Tuvok that she had seen the way he isolated himself and that even a crowd of people he was alone and thus he was like her. (VOY: "Alter Ego")

After Annorax abducted Chakotay and Tom Paris aboard his ship, he put both in isolation for two months. (VOY: "Year of Hell, Part II")

In a deleted scene of ENT: "Fallen Hero", an isolation chamber was mentioned to be on Risa, filled with warm Eluvian mud for meditation.
