Isolytic weapon designed by Ruon Tarka

An isolytic weapon was a type of subspace weapon known to cause irreparable damage to subspace, potentially threatening warp travel on a sector-wide scale. Because of the extreme and unpredictable danger they posed, they were banned by the Second Khitomer Accords between the Federation and a number of other species. The construction of isolytic weapons required the rare mineral isolynium. (Star Trek: Insurrection; DIS: "...But to Connect", "All In")

In the late 24th century, the Son'a equipped their battle cruisers with isolytic bursts, a type of isolytic weapon capable of producing a subspace tear. (Star Trek: Insurrection)

In 3190, Risian scientist Ruon Tarka designed what was effectively an isolytic weapon that could generate a cascading subspace burst capable of severing the controller of the Dark Matter Anomaly from its energy source. He suggested that the unique threat posed by the DMA would justify an exception to the long-standing ban on isolytic weaponry. His plan was rejected at the Multilateral DMA Strategy Assembly due to the risk of collateral damage and provocation of the highly advanced Unknown Species 10-C. Nevertheless, he was later able to successfully deploy his weapon with the aid of Cleveland Booker. (DIS: "...But to Connect", "Rubicon")
