The ja'chuq was a Klingon ceremony performed by candidates during the Rite of Succession. In the ja'chuq, each challenger listed the battles they had won, the prizes they had taken, etc. to demonstrate their worthiness to lead the Empire. At the end of this phase, each challenger would announce "jIH DoQ batlh!" ("I claim the honor!") The challengers' claims were recorded. Considered obsolete in modern times, the ja'chuq could take days to complete.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard, as the Arbiter of Succession, revived the ja'chuq in 2367 to delay the completion of the Rite of Succession until it could be determined whether Gowron or Duras was responsible for an assassination attempt at Chancellor K'mpec's Sonchi ceremony. (TNG: "Reunion")
