Jack Axelrod (25 January 1930 – 28 November 2023; age 93) [1] was the actor who portrayed the first chorus member in the Star Trek: Voyager sixth season episode "Muse".
Axelrod was born in Los Angeles, California and made his first acting steps in the '70s with appearances in the television series Kojak (1977, with Ellen Bry) and the comedy Bananas (1971). Axelrod is also an award winning stage actor who performed in plays such as Autumn Elegy, Gypsy, Lost Uncles, Of Mice and Men, Christmas from the Heart, MacBeth, and Gandhi.
A well known face on screen, Axelrod played supporting and featured roles in several television series, including Hill Street Blues (1984, with regulars James B. Sikking and Barbara Bosson), Dallas (1983-1984, with Susan Howard, John Beck, Tracy Scoggins, Glenn Corbett, Walker Edmiston, Morgan Woodward, and Barry Jenner), Dynasty (1987, with Joan Collins and Matthew Faison), Night Court (1989), Knots Landing (1989-1990, with Melinda Culea, Joseph Campanella, Peter Vogt, Cecile Callan, and Biff Yeager), Everybody Loves Raymond (1999), Dhrama & Greg (1999, with Mitchell Ryan), The Division (2001), J.J. Abrams' Alias (2001, with Robert Clendenin, Keone Young, and Paul Scott), Ally McBeal, and Frasier (2003, starring Kelsey Grammer and with Steve Susskind).
Axelrod also had a recurring role in General Hospital (1987-1989) and featured roles in Not My Kid (1985, with Andrew Robinson and Chad Allen), Love, Cheat & Steal (1993, with Mädchen Amick and John Pyper-Ferguson), the short comedy Through Thick and Thin (1999), Something to Sing About (2000, with Terrell Clayton), and the drama Blowing Smoke (2004, with Daniel Roebuck).
He has recurring roles as Grandpa Eddie in The Help (2004, with regular Brenda Strong), as Electrolarynx Guy in My Name Is Earl (2005-2007, with Jeanette Miller, Frank Collison, Carel Struycken, Robert Clendenin, and directed by Marc Buckland), and as Charlie "Really Old Guy" Yost in Grey's Anatomy (2006-2007). Axelrod also portrayed characters in episodes of Malcolm in the Middle (2005) and Scrubs (2006, with Ken Jenkins).
Axelrod later had supporting roles in Hancock (2008, with David Mattey, Elizabeth Dennehy, and Gregg Daniel), Table for Three (2008, with Jennifer Morrison), and Labor Pains (2009, with Willie Garson and D.C. Douglas).
