James X. Mitchell (born 3 August 1942; age 82) played Lt. Josephs in the Star Trek: The Original Series second season episode "Journey to Babel". He filmed his scenes on Friday 22 September 1967 at Desilu Stage 9.

Mitchell was under contract with Paramount when he signed to join the cast of the film Rogue's Gallery (1968, with Lee Delano, Chuck Hicks, Bob Hoy, and William Meader) in September 1967, and Buckskin (1968; with Nick Borgani) in December of the same year, before seemingly retiring from professional acting.

In 2003, Mitchell lived in Paris, France, where he worked as a screenwriter and translator, including the translation of the nonfiction title Who Killed Daniel Pearl-Levy?. [1]

In 2010, he was still residing in Paris, where he represented the global organization known as "Americans Against the War". [2]
