Jeffrey Charles "Jeff" McCarthy (born 16 October 1954; age 66) is the actor who portrayed Roga Danar in the Star Trek: The Next Generation third season episode "The Hunted". Five years later, he played the USS Voyager's ill-fated Human chief medical officer in the Star Trek: Voyager first season episode "Caretaker".
Outside of Star Trek, McCarthy's television work includes appearances on such shows as The Equalizer (in an episode with Lori Petty), Matlock (with Albert Hall and Wallace Langham), Knots Landing (two episodes: one with Gregory Itzin, another with Biff Yeager), Cheers (co-starring Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth, and Paul Willson), Equal Justice (with Cecily Adams), L.A. Law (starring Corbin Bernsen and Larry Drake), Law & Order, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He co-starred with Salome Jens, Jack Kehler, and Richard Riehle in the 1989 TV movie Cast the First Stone and appeared with Jim Metzler in the 1990 TV movie Crash: The Mystery of Flight 501. In addition, he was the voice of Michigan J. Frog for the WB network and even voiced the character in a 1995 animated short, Another Froggy Evening.
McCarthy can be seen in a number of feature films: Robocop 2 in 1990 (co-starring Peter Weller, Bill Bolender, Roger Aaron Brown,Gabriel Damon, Robert DoQui, John Glover, Tzi Ma, Mark Rolston, and Phil Rubenstein), Eve of Destruction in 1991 (with Dakin Matthews, Tom Morga and Voyager's Tim Russ), Rapid Fire in 1992 (with Tzi Ma, John Vickery, and Basil Wallace), and Cliffhanger in 1993 (also featuring Zach Grenier, Bruce McGill and Paul Winfield).
He may best be known for his work on the Broadway stage. He is among the several actors to play Beast in the acclaimed, long-running Broadway play Beauty and the Beast, but he is particularly well-known for originating the role of Officer Lockstock in Urinetown: The Musical. He portrayed Lockstock from August 2001 through January 2004 and earned a 2001 Drama Desk Award Outstanding in the category of Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance. He currently stars in the original Broadway musical The Pirate Queen.
