Jim Metzler was born on June 23rd, 1951. He played Chris Brynner in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes "Past Tense, Part I" and "Past Tense, Part II."

He has appeared in many other popular television series such as Murder, She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder, JAG, Sliders, C.S.I.: NY and NYPD Blue. He also appeared in two episodes of Beauty and the Beast, a series which starred Ron Perlman and Armin Shimerman.

In 1983, he received a Golden Globe nomination for his supporting role in the 1982 film Tex. He went on to play James Huntoon in the 1985 mini-series North and South and its 1986 continuation, North and South, Book II. Other Trek alumnus who appear in this series include Jonathan Frakes, Kirstie Alley, Leon Rippy, William Schallert, Jean Simmons, Kurtwood Smith, David Ogden Stiers, and Anthony Zerbe.

He also co-starred with future Star Trek: Voyager actor Robert Picardo in the quirky 1989 horror film 976-EVIL.

His motion picture credits include Squeeze Play (1980, with Jennifer Hetrick), River's Edge (1986), Delusion (1991, with Robert Costanzo and Rudolph Willrich), Children of the Corn III (1995, with Michael Ensign), L.A. Confidential (1997, with Steven Rankin) and The United States of Leland (2003, with Michael Welch)
