John D. Gowans (born 23 December 1943; age 80) is an actor who appeared as the transporter assistant to Rand in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Gowans has appeared on-screen since the early '70s. He made guest appearances in the television series The Corner Bar (1972, episode Politics, with Vincent Schiavelli), The Rockford Files (1976, with Jason Wingreen, Dick Durock, and Chuck Hicks), The Incredible Hulk (1979, with Louise Sorel), Dallas (1983, with Susan Howard, John Beck, Henry Darrow, and Morgan Woodward), Hill Street Blues (1985, with regulars James B. Sikking and Barbara Bosson), The Twilight Zone (1985, with Nan Martin), Dynasty (1989, episode Blasts from the Past, with Joan Collins, Stephanie Beacham, Tracy Scoggins, and Spike Silver), Murder, She Wrote (1993, episode, with Dennis Christopher, Keene Curtis, and William Windom), The Practice (1998, with David Bowe and Dan Desmond, and directed by Adam Nimoy), 7th Heaven (2001, with Catherine Hicks and Star Trek: The Motion Picture co-star Stephen Collins), and Numbers (2006).
