Jordan filming location

A scene filmed in Jordan

Jordan, officially named The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is a country in Western Asia which was used as filming location for the Star Trek: Discovery pilot episode "The Vulcan Hello" in 2017.

Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon, the largest desert valley in Jordan, located in the southern part of the country, was used to portray the early scene on the surface of the Crepusculan homeworld including lead actress Sonequa Martin-Green and Michelle Yeoh. [1] [2]

Footage filmed for the Discovery pilot at this location was recycled and enchanced with new CGI elements to serve as establishing shots of the planet Vashti in the Star Trek: Picard first season episode "Absolute Candor". [3]

Prince Abdullah bin al-Hussein appeared as a background actor in the 1996 Star Trek: Voyager episode "Investigations" before he was crowned King of Jordan in 1999.

In the early 2010s, King Abdullah was the majority local investor of a planned Star Trek theme park, named Red Sea Astrarium, in the Jordanian city of Aqaba. The centerpiece of this theme park was to be the Star Trek themed space flight adventure created under license from CBS Consumer Products. [4] The park was planned to open for business in 2014, however, construction stopped in early 2015, and the park was never completed or opened. [5]
