Joseph Paz (6 November 1923 – 2 March 2002; age 78) was an actor who appeared as a Vulcan litter bearer in the Star Trek: The Original Series second season episode "Amok Time". He received no credit for this appearance.
Paz' career in Hollywood began in the early 1950s as a vocalist and dancer. In 1951 he was a featured in the musical "Ring Around the Ring” at the Players’ Ring Theater. (Los Angeles Evening Citizen News, 13 June 1951, p. 17)
Prior to his Star Trek role, Paz the bulk of his work was during the aforementioned decade, where he had supporting and background roles in such productions as Excuse My Dust (1951), an episode of The Jack Benny Program (1957), and South Pacific (1958, with Ray Walston and France Nuyen).
In 1960, he appeared in Elvis Presley's G.I. Blues, which also featured Bill Couch, Sr., Chuck Couch, Lars Hensen, Paul Power, Arthur Tovey, and marionette work by Bob Baker. He can also be seen in Justine (1969, with Michael Dunn, Abraham Sofaer, Eli Behar, Felix Silla, and John Winston).
Paz worked as a regular background actor and stand-in on the comedy series Cheers in the 1980s. He can be seen in the background of over sixty episodes during the first four seasons between 1982 and 1986 where he worked with fellow Trek alumni such as Gene Poe, Bruce Dobos, Kelsey Grammer, Lee Allen, Dawn Grisheau, Gene Cross, Joey Banks, Michael Prokopuk, Roger Trantham, Joel Schultz, Maria Kelly, Marvin Smith, Tim Culbertson, Suzanne Lodge, David Armstrong, Buzz Barbee, John Copage, Gayle Frank, Tim Werner, Robert Hitchcock, Martin Valinsky, Gerald David Bauman, Bob Davis, Robert Buckingham, Mike Paciorek, Jeff Cadiente, Michael Zurich, Jay Crimp, Fritz Herzog, Dwayne McGee, David Channell, Jessie Biscardi, Kathy Hammers, Tony Rocco, Jimmie Booth, Ilona Wilson, Nanci Rogers, Bobby Burns, Danny Nero, Lemuel Perry, Nick Trisko, Candace Crump, and Bernadette Pelletier. Paz received credit as Joseph Paz in the fourth season episode "Suspicion" in 1986 where he had a short dialogue with Shelley Long.
He also appeared as Wilkins, the butler of Jonathan St. Clair, in the Best of the West episode "Elvira's Old Beau" in 1982. This episode also features Tracey Walter.
