Joshua D. Thatcher is a lighting control programmer who works in film and television. He was the 2nd Unit Conventional Light Programmer on Star Trek Nemesis, though he did not receive credit for his work. [1] Thatcher worked as lighting console programmer on Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. He was briefly interviewed in the Blu-ray special "The Klingon Home World".

Thatcher runs his own company, Lighting Control Solutions, based in Los Angeles, California. In addition to his work on Nemesis, he has served in the electrical department of several other films (as well as television projects and music videos), typically as a lighting programmer.

Some of Thatcher's past film credits as an electrician include Ali (2001, featuring LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Brad Greenquist, Albert Hall, Bruce McGill, Wade Andrew Williams, and William Utay), Swordfish (2001, featuring Zach Grenier), and The Majestic (starring David Ogden Stiers and featuring Frank Collison). His film credits specifically as a light programmer have included Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003, featuring Marc Lawrence, Dick Miller, George Murdock, Ron Perlman, and Robert Picardo), Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004), Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005, starring Diedrich Bader, Enrique Murciano, and William Shatner), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Spider-Man 3 (2007, starring James Cromwell and Kirsten Dunst), and Paramount Pictures' Iron Man (2008, featuring Tom Morello, Bill Smitrovich, and Faran Tahir).

Thatcher has worked with Star Trek cinematographer Dan Mindel on Domino (2005) and Mission: Impossible III (2006). The latter, like Star Trek, was directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci. Thatcher was a lighting programmer on two other films written by Kurtzman and Orci: The Island (2005,featuring Katy Boyer, Michael Canavan, Tim Halligan, Glenn Morshower, Randy Oglesby, Ethan Phillips, Noa Tishby, and Transformers (featuring Morshower, Andy Milder, W. Morgan Sheppard, Michael Shamus Wiles, Jamison Yang, and the voice of Robert Foxworth), both directed by Michael Bay.

His television credits include The Bernie Mac Show, Fear Factor, and Last Comic Standing. Some of the music videos on which he has worked include Madonna's "What It Feels Like for a Girl", Limp Bizkit's "My Way or the Highway", Ja Rule (ft. Bobby Brown)'s "Thug Lovin'", Dido's "White Flag", and Fountain of Wayne's "Stacey's Mom".
