Ensign Kashimuro Nozawa was a male Human Starfleet operations division officer assigned aboard USS Voyager under the command of Captain Kathryn Janeway in 2371.

Service history[]

2371[]

While docked at Deep Space 9, Nozawa was treated in sickbay where he was lying on a biobed while Tom Paris and Harry Kim reported to sickbay.

Following the transport of Voyager into the Delta Quadrant, he was one of the crewmen who carried the dead body of Lieutenant Stadi off the bridge on a stretcher.

Later, he was among the crewmembers who were transported aboard the Caretaker's array and witnessed the holographic farm folk trying to deviate the Voyager crew. When Captain Janeway received a hail from Tom Paris without any further word, Nozawa was among the crewmembers who followed Janeway into a barn. In the barn the holographic farm folk threatened the crewmembers and revealed the medical tech chamber of the Caretaker where everyone was placed on a bed and probed. (VOY: "Caretaker")

Nozawa was on the bridge when the ship was hit by several discharges from a type-4 quantum singularity. He was thrown off his feet. (VOY: "Parallax")

Nozawa was part of the security detail sent to transporter room 3 when the two Vidiians Dereth and Motura were beamed aboard Voyager. He escorted them to sickbay where he was scanned by their bio-probe to find an applicable lung for Neelix. (VOY: "Phage")

He visited Tom Paris holographic program Paris 3, the Chez Sandrine pool bar and watched a game of pool between Captain Janeway and Paris. (VOY: "The Cloud")

Nozawa sat at a table for four in the mess hall when Voyager left the planet Banea. (VOY: "Ex Post Facto")

Nozawa visited the mess hall again and was sitting with a female officer and William McKenzie while Kes and the Vhnori Ptera had something to eat. (VOY: "Emanations")

He visited the mess hall when Voyager received a distress call from a Sikarian starship. Later, he was among the crewmembers who visited the plaza on Sikaris and talked to a female Sikarian. When Seska, B'Elanna Torres, and Joe Carey discussed violating the Prime Directive and captain's order in the mess hall, Nozawa passed their table. (VOY: "Prime Factors")

Nozawa took a drink from a replicator, when Tuvok and the Maquis crewmembers Chell, Kenneth Dalby, Henley, and Gerron passed the mess hall during their run through the ship. He smiled when Chell took the water of a fellow crewmember. He remained in the mess hall and was sitting on a couch when Neelix talked to Tuvok about the flexibility of the Vulcan. He also passed the two when the were standing in front of the counter. (VOY: "Learning Curve")

In 2372, he visited the mess hall when Kes brought a spawn beetle who was hiding in the salad she got from the airponics bay. He was talking to a sciences officer until she left and later had a seat at the table behind Neelix when the Talaxian talked to Tuvok about being a parent. (VOY: "Elogium")

In an alternate 2372, experienced by Harry Kim, Nozawa was not aboard Voyager but walked down the streets of San Francisco near Kim's apartment. (VOY: "Non Sequitur")

Tampoya is listed on the call sheet as "Stand-in/Starfleet" and is the only Starfleet officer seen in the background crossing a street.

Nozawa surprised by Torres

Later that year, Nozawa was surprised to have Lieutenant Torres suddenly walking in on him in his quarters while he was undressed, this was a result of her walking in the wrong door because the ship's hull was being distorted in an inversion field. (VOY: "Twisted")

This scene was filmed during second unit on Tuesday 16 May 1995 on Paramount Stage 9, the final day of filming on the first season. Tampoya is listed as "N.D. in Quarters" on the call sheet.

He assisted B'Elanna Torres modifying the transporter in the transporter room to be able to bring back Tom Paris and Neelix from the surface of "Planet Hell". (VOY: "Parturition")

Later in 2372, he served as the transporter chief in Transporter Room 2 when Voyager prepared to return Automated Personnel Unit 3947 to his mothership. When 3947 took it upon himself to abduct B'Elanna Torres, the APU shocked both Torres and then Nozawa with a chromodynamic energy discharge, stunning them both. (VOY: "Prototype")

Nozawa later assisted Torres when she beamed aboard a core sample from a rogue comet. He was in the transporter room when the resulting sample was found instead to be a man, who was in reality a Q who had been imprisoned within. (VOY: "Death Wish")

He joined a fellow crewmember for a meal in the mess hall while Voyager had to deal with the death of Crewman Frank Darwin. (VOY: "Meld")

2373[]

In 2373, Nozawa passed Tuvok and Chakotay on their way to main engineering while Voyager explored the Azure Nebula. (VOY: "Flashback")

He was working in engineering the Voyager transported a group of Enaran scientists and attended a banquet hosted in honor of several Enarans in the mess hall, later. (VOY: "Remember")

Nozawa manned the transporter room where he was stunned by The Doctor, who had turned evil as the result of attempted personality enhancement. (VOY: "Darkling")

Nozawa visited the Paxau Resort when Kes experienced one of her timeshifts and witnessed the Krenim attack on Voyager. (VOY: "Before and After")

Later that year, Voth scientists Forra Gegen and Tova Veer observed Nozawa walking the corridors of Voyager, to which they commented on how bad Humans smelled. (VOY: "Distant Origin")

He was working in main engineering when Torres, Chakotay, and Janeway inspected the data sent from one of their probes. Later, he was carrying boxes through a corridor when the crew prepared to enter Borg space. (VOY: "Scorpion")

2374[]

In an alternate 2374, created by Annorax using his weapon ship, Nozawa was among the wounded crewmembers cared for in the triage mess hall. (VOY: "Year of Hell")

He was injured again in 2374 when a console exploded as the result of a thermionic discharge while he transported deuterium. He also let himself be copied with the rest of the crew by the Silver Blood. (VOY: "Demon")

He was present in the mess hall during the birthday celebration of Ahni Jetal. (VOY: "Latent Image")

2377[]

In 2377, he was brainwashed by the Quarren after they irradiated Voyager and forced the evacuation of its crew. He, along with most of the rest of the crew spent approximately three weeks in the largest city on Quarra, their memories were altered and they were unaware that they had been kidnapped. On Quarra he worked in a power distribution plant and his employee number was 8582. (VOY: "Workforce", "Workforce, Part II")

Hologram []

A hologram of Nozawa was featured in the holodeck program Insurrection Alpha as one of the officers who remained loyal to Captain Janeway that resisted Chakotay's mutiny. Nozawa was shot on Deck 2 when Chatokay and the individual playing the first person role searched the ship for any remaining resistance. (VOY: "Worst Case Scenario")

Background information[]

Nozawa was played by regular background actor and Garrett Wang's stand-in and photo double John Tampoya who received no credit for his appearances.

His full name was given by the Quarren computer in "Workforce, Part II" but was mislabeled as a woman.

According to the call sheet, Tampoya was also scheduled to appear as the transporter chief who beamed Dr. Jetrel aboard in the first season episode "Jetrel" but was out of focus and did not appear in the final episode.
