Kesprytt III was the inhabited third planet of its star system, and was the homeworld of the Kesprytt. The planet was divided into two large countries controlled by the Kes and the Prytt Alliance.
During the 24th century, the Kes was the larger of the two nations, comprising three quarters of the planet's population, while Prytt contained the remaining one quarter of the population. The two nation-states had a paranoid dislike of each other, bordering on xenophobia.
Locations[]
The Kes maintained a security station called Security Relay Station One.
The border between the Kes and Prytt nations was enforced using a large force field. The Prytt village of Ohn-Kor was near the border, and the Prytt capital city was within hiking distance.
An island named Kolrod Island was located on the planet, and contested by both governments.
History[]
In 2370, the Kes applied for an "associate" Federation membership, as an exception to the normal rule requiring a planet be unified socially and politically for membership. The application for the admission of Kes to the Federation was rejected due to the unresolved social, political, and military problems between the two nations. (TNG: "Attached")
According to the script, the pronunciation for Kesprytt was "KES-prit". [1]
The surface scenes were filmed on a two day location shooting at Griffith Park's Bronson Canyon. (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, 2nd ed., p. 272)
Both StarTrek.com and the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 414 classified Kesprytt as an M-class world. [2](X)
