Data holding a kettle

A kettle was a metal vessel used to boil water.

In 2369, interested in how Humans perceived time passing Data boiled the same amount of water in a kettle sixty-two times to test the saying "a watched pot never boils". Whether he watched it or not, it still took 51.7 seconds. Upon hearing this, William T. Riker suggested that he turn off his internal chronometer to make the test more accurate. (TNG: "Timescape")

In 2376, a whistling kettle in USS Voyager's kitchen startled Neelix. (VOY: "Memorial")
