The Kitolian Belt was an astronomical formation centered on a collapsing neutron star.
In 2261, the USS Enterprise passed through the Kitolian Belt, where it conducted observations of the neutron star. During the mission, a malfunctioning prototype holodeck drained power from the shields and engines, leaving the starship vulnerable when the star emitted a gamma-ray burst. Lieutenant jg Montgomery Scott managed to manually reroute enough power for thirty seconds of acceleration, allowing Enterprise to evade the burst. (SNW: "A Space Adventure Hour")
