A koala was a marsupial native to Earth.
In 2380, Lieutenant O'Connor mentioned to Ensign D'Vana Tendi seeing a koala with the universe resting upon its back during his ascension. (LD: "Moist Vessel")
The following year, Ensign Brad Boimler claimed to have seen a koala after he nearly drowned in Cetacean Ops. He, too, related his experience to Tendi, who politely suggested that Boimler keep that piece of information to himself. (LD: "First First Contact")
