Kolopak was the father of Chakotay, and a member of a Native American tribe that had moved a few centuries earlier to a planet in what later became the Demilitarized Zone.
Kolopak had a saying, "Home is wherever you happen to be." (VOY: "Deadlock")
Kolopak felt that Chakotay should have been taught on how to properly construct shelters, such as log cabins. (VOY: "Resolutions")
