Korvat colony was a Klingon colony in the Korvat system, in the Beta Quadrant.

This colony was the site of negotiations between the Federation and the Klingon Empire in 2289 whose aim was an end to the decades-old cold war between the two. The Federation was represented in the negotiations by Curzon Dax, while the Klingons were represented by Kang, along with Koloth and Kor.

Though ultimately unsuccessful, the negotiations did provide a sort of détente that created the conditions that allowed for more serious negotiations several years later when the Klingon moon of Praxis exploded, threatening the survival of their homeworld.

The meeting also sparked a long friendship and mutual admiration between Curzon Dax and the Klingon negotiators that was later renewed by Jadzia Dax. (DS9: "Blood Oath")

Appendices[]

Background information[]

This colony was only mentioned in dialogue.

This colony's quadrant of origin is inferred based on the position of its star system as seen in the star charts appearing in the Star Trek: Discovery episode "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad" and in the Star Trek: Picard episode "Maps and Legends".

According to the script, Korvat was pronounced as "KOR-vat". [1]

Apocrypha[]

The novel The Sorrows of Empire depicts the Korvat negotiations taking place between the Klingons and the Terran Empire in the mirror universe in 2289. The mirror counterparts of Curzon Dax (β) and Kang (β) were present, as were those of Gorkon (β) and General Chang (β).
