Ensign Kova Rin Esmar was a 25th century non-binary Haliian and Starfleet operations division officer.
Starfleet career[]
In 2401, they served as the communications officer aboard the USS Titan-A under Captain Liam Shaw. (PIC: "The Next Generation")
Esmar was frequently on duty at their station while Captain William T. Riker and Admiral Jean Luc Picard came aboard seeking the SS Eleos XII, while the Titan was on the run from the Shrike, and later from Starfleet itself. (PIC: "Disengage", "Seventeen Seconds", "No Win Scenario", "Imposters")
Esmar monitored repeated long-range trace attempts by Starfleet and the Changelings, ignoring them to keep the Titan's location hidden. When Captain Riker sent a trace with a compromised prefix code, it notified the Titan of his status, but Esmar could still block it to prevent the Shrike from learning the Titan's location. Vadic lined Esmar up along with other Titan officers held prisoner, at one point appearing to have decided to kill Esmar, only to instead execute Lt. T'Veen. (PIC: "Surrender")
Following the Borg's assimilation of Starfleet, they assumed command of the Titan. (PIC: "Vox")
Seven of Nine and Raffi Musiker were able to trap the assimilated Esmar temporarily and reclaim the bridge by beaming them to a locked transporter room. The assimilated Esmar and other crew under Borg control eventually broke free, attained phasers, and got to the bridge just before Picard was able to break the Borg signal. The signal broken, Esmar and the others were found themselves dazed and back in control of their bodies. Soon after the Frontier Day crisis, Starfleet implemented a fleet-wide transporter solution to those affected.
In 2402, Ensign Esmar continued at their post on the newly rechristened USS Enterprise-G under Captain Seven of Nine. (PIC: "The Last Generation")
