Kynk was a male Ferengi who lived during the late 24th century, and was the leader of a band of Ferengi poachers who trafficked in mugato parts, such as horns. He had heard of Quark.
In 2381, an away team from the USS Cerritos discovered Kynk's base of operations on Frylon IV, in the midst of a transaction between Kynk and Hyde. Kynk at first feigned ignorance to Lieutenant Shaxs that he was operating in Federation space in violation of conservation laws, and then claimed to have a permit. He proceeded to attack Shaxs with his Ferengi whip, accidentally damaging a control panel and releasing his caged mugatos.
In the aftermath, Kynk and his band captured all the members of the Starfleet team except Ensigns Brad Boimler and Sam Rutherford. Boimler and Rutherford infiltrated his camp and jury-rigged a holographic projector, which they used to give a presentation about how Kynk could earn 150% more latinum if he kept the mugatos alive as a tourist attraction, and instead charged for tickets, concessions, and merchandise. Kynk noted that their proposal would take more work than poaching, but could not deny the projected profit margin, and so agreed to the ensigns' proposal.
Kynk released his captives and began converting his camp into a nature preserve called Kynk's Mugatoland, pledging that from then on, they would "work for the mugatos". As per Rutherford's compromise with Kynk, Captain Carol Freeman neglected to report to Admiral Alonzo Freeman that Kynk had attacked her team, saying only that they had "made contact with a group of eco-friendly Ferengi."
