The Doctor once tried singing the duet O, soave fanciulla from this opera with a holographic recreation of Giuseppina Pentangeli, a famed 22nd century opera diva. But the hologram of Pentangeli also duplicated her vanity and demanding temperament which made her near impossible to work with. The Doctor considered singing with Maria Callas next time instead. (VOY: "The Swarm")

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 450), this opera was written in 1896.
