Personnel records of Lela Dax

Lela was born in 2112. (DS9: "Equilibrium")

In 2160, at the age of 48, she applied to be joined with a symbiont. (DS9: "Equilibrium") Her initiate supervisor was Jobel. (DS9: "Facets")

In 2168, she was accepted for joining and became the first host of the Dax symbiont. (DS9: "Equilibrium") The Dax symbiont was already 150 years old at the time. It had been born on Trill in 2018. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

In 2170, she was a field docent to a Trill initiate. (DS9: "Playing God")

Lela was a famous legislator in the Trillian government, and one of the first women to be appointed as a council member. (DS9: "Playing God", "Facets") Lela had a son named Ahjess, who would frequently climb into his mother's bed after being tucked in for the night to get attention. Like most of the other hosts, however, she had no musical talent. (DS9: "Equilibrium", "To the Death")

In 2226, Lela died at the old age of 114 and the Dax symbiont was joined with Tobin. (DS9: "Equilibrium", "Rejoined")

During Jadzia Dax's zhian'tara in 2371, Kira Nerys embodied Lela's memories and personality. Jadzia noted that she picked up from Lela the habit of walking with her hands clasped behind her back. (DS9: "Facets") Ezri Dax adopted this habit as well. (DS9: "Once More Unto the Breach")

Background[]

Lela Dax was played by Nana Visitor during Jadzia Dax's zhian'tara in the episode "Facets".

The first draft script of DS9: "Ties of Blood and Water" established that Lela Dax was, according to Jadzia Dax and Kira Nerys, "one of the greatest mountaineers in the history of Trill" (though the script misspelled her first name as "Leyla").

In the novel Ascendance, Lela's pre-joining name is given as "Lela Yurani". Lela appears in The Lives of Dax short story "First Steps". She meets T'Pau in the story. Lela had a daughter called Marayn who died during a lethal virus outbreak on Andevian II. Her husband was called Nareeya.
