Leonard Nimoy: Star Trek Memories was a TV special which was produced in 1983 and first aired in 1984. It was hosted by Leonard Nimoy and featured the Spock actor discussing the making of Star Trek: The Original Series and the first two Star Trek films, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. It also included a short preview of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
The documentary was filmed in Boston, Massachusetts at the Channel 56 television studios and ran about fifty minutes to fill a one hour TV time slot. At the time, the channel was part of the Kaiser Broadcasting Group, partially owned by the Boston Globe newspaper group.
Much of the show featured Nimoy dressed in a sport coat and jeans who stood in front of a star field while addressing the camera. Clips from the original show and the first two movies were shown throughout the course of the show. At the end of the documentary, Nimoy was asked if Spock would return to life for future movies and he responded by saying "In science fiction, is death the final chapter of life, or just the beginning of another story?"
This special was often included in Star Trek syndication packages to bring the total number of episodes of The Original Series to eighty. In many markets, it commonly aired following Star Trek's last episode, "Turnabout Intruder", before the re-airing of the first episode, "The Man Trap".
Although "The Man Trap" was the sixth episode produced, it was the first aired, so most syndication packages retained the original airing order instead of the production order. "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was the first episode produced.
