Les Kaluza (23 September 1930 – 23 June 2018; age 87) was a cartoonist employed at Filmation studios as a layout artist on Star Trek: The Animated Series.
Kaluza worked as an animator in his native Poland in the 1950s before immigrating to the United States with his wife in 1960. He worked in the animation and layout departments of Paramount Pictures in New York City, and for Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, and Calico in Los Angeles. Besides Star Trek, he worked as layout artist on several Filmation shows in the 1960s and 1970s, including Fantastic Voyage, The Hardy Boys, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, The Brady Kids, Lassie's Rescue Rangers, The New Adventures of Gilligan, and The New Adventures of Batman.
He went on to become an animation director at Hanna-Barbera in the 1980s and 1990s, working on series like Yogi's Treasure Hunt and The Flintstone Kids. Later, he worked as production supervisor of animated series and specials in Europe for Hanna-Barbera and in Asia for Calico, Saban Entertainment, and Nickelodeon.
Kaluza retired in the 2000s and lived in Oregon with his wife, where he passed away in 2018.
