Lincos was a mathematics-based language developed on Earth thought to be helpful in establishing communication with extraterrestrial species.
In 3190, Saru compared the bridge language Species 10-C taught the USS Discovery crew to Lincos. Captain Burnham decribed Lincos as "A language based on math. The 21st century Earth organization METI predicted that it would be helpful in extraplanetary communication." (DIS: "Species Ten-C")
In the real world, the constructed language Lincos was first proposed by mathematician Hans Freudenthal in 1960. [1]
