Looney Labs is an American game design and manufacturing company. Founded by Andrew and Kristin Looney in 1996, and based in Maryland, the company is best-known for the Fluxx card game and its variants.
In 2018, it was announced that the company was pairing with Gale Force Nine to produce two Star Trek-based variants of Fluxx. Star Trek Fluxx and Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx were released in August 2018, along with a expansion pack, Star Trek Fluxx Bridge Expansion, which allowed the two games to be combined together. [1]
In January 2019, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Fluxx was officially announced. It was released in July 2019. [2], along with a Promo Card that adds Ezri Dax to the game. About a month later in August 2019, a Trek-themed edition of the game Chrononauts titled Star Trek Chrono-Trek was released.
In February 2020, Star Trek: Voyager Fluxx was announced via an article on the TrekCore website. Prototype art for the box and several playing cards were shown, and a prediction of a "Summer (2020) release" was made. Unfortunately, the article also stated that this would be the last Trek-related Fluxx game released, as no plans for a Star Trek: Enterprise Fluxx were in the works. [3]
However, later in 2021, Looney Labs released two additional expansion packs that added some Enterprise characters & elements (as well as elements from the four earlier version) and allowed for combined play with all four Star Trek editions: the Archer Expansion added cards for Captain Archer, Crewman Daniels, the Xindi and more, while the Porthos Expansion added cards for Archer's dog Porthos, Data's cat Spot, Dr. Phlox and other elements.
Shortly thereafter, the company stated they were stepping away from producing "licensed" games for the foreseeable future. As of 2023, remaining stock of their Star Trek games, expansions, and promos are available through their Webstore.
