Chevrolet Caprice, Futures End

LAPD police cruiser in 1996

The Los Angeles Police Department, or LAPD, was a law enforcement agency in Los Angeles, California in the United States of America during the late 20th century.

Captain Braxton often had run-ins with the LAPD in 1996 for posting signs around the beachfront, stating that it's the "Future's end." A few people complained about his actions to the police. During one such run-in, as one of the officers, Sims, approached Braxton, Braxton warned him to stay away and referred to him as "quasi-Cardassian totalitarian." (VOY: "Future's End")

Gene Roddenberry worked for the LAPD between 1949 and 1956. (Star Trek Creator: The Authorized Biography of Gene Roddenberry, p. 110, 151) Spock was inspired by Captain (later Chief) William Parker, whom Neal McDonough portrayed in the TNT show Mob City alongside Simon Pegg, and for whom James Cromwell's character in LA Confidential worked for. (citation needededit) Klingons were named for LAPD Lieutenant Wilbur Clingan. (Star Trek: The Original Series 365, p. 141)
