This class of ship originally appeared in FASA's Star Trek: The Role Playing Game (gaming miniature No. 2523), featured in the Star Trek III Sourcebook Update, pg. 24, as a neutronic fuel carrier (comparable to the Class III carrier) that appeared in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and identifies the Kobayashi Maru as a member of this class.
