The term low-gravity species referred to species who were adapted to living on planets with low gravity. Elaysians were one such example.

In 2340, Nathaniel Teros worked with low gravity species to test his theories regarding neuromuscular adaptation. Though his work had no practical success, in principle it was still possible. In 2370, Doctor Julian Bashir asked Melora Pazlar if she'd heard of Teros' work with low-gravity species. (DS9: "Melora")
