The Lucas was a small 23rd century Federation class J cargo ship that was utilized as a cadet training vessel by Starfleet in 2266.

That year, two months into a three-month observation cruise with Fleet Captain Pike overseeing, a baffle plate ruptured, exposing the crew to harmful delta rays, resulting in the loss of two cadets, including Maat Al-Salah, and the permanent disability of Fleet Captain Pike due to severe radiation exposure from to his attempts to rescue the cadets who were trapped in the engineering room. (TOS: "The Menagerie, Part I"; DIS: "Through the Valley of Shadows")

In an illusory alternate future created by Captain Marie Batel during her confrontation with the Vezda Zeperez in 2261, Pike still participated in the observation cruise, but to their surprise the baffle plate never ruptured. (SNW: "New Life and New Civilizations")

According to StarTrek.com, Pike was on board the USS Republic when he suffered his radiation poisoning. [1](X)
In the comic "Captain's Log: Pike (β)", the ship was the USS Exeter (NCC-1788).
