Background information[]
The historical Luddites were 19th-century English textile workers who smashed textile machines. They did not necessarily oppose the use of machines as such, but objected to their use in a "fraudulent and deceitful manner." The term was later applied to any objection or opposition to the use of automation, computerization or technology in general.
Apocrypha[]
One of several playable Star Trek: Voyager missions in the Star Trek: Encounters video game is called "The Luddite Prophecy".
