Lysosomal enzymes are the enzymes responsible for the digestion of large organic molecules in a cell. The enzymes that are contained in the lysosomes are so powerful that if they were released from their vacuole, the cell would be obliterated, digested from within.

The biochemical analysis symbiogenetic orchid discovered in the Delta Quadrant by Tuvok and Neelix, which was later a contributing factor in the creation of Tuvix, was found to contain the same elements as many plants including chloroplasts, lysosomal enzymes, and cytoplasmic proteins.
