Note: Only administrators are permitted to protect a page. (See also: Protection policy)
In certain cases it may be necessary to protect a page from being edited. The MediaWiki software provides for a simple mechanism by which all edits that are not made by administrators are forbidden.
- Select the "protect" tab at the top of the page for the article to be protected.
- Choose a protection level, either "Block unregistered users" or "Sysops only".
- If you want to change the move permissions separate from the edit permissions, check the "Unlock move permissions" and choose a protection level for moves.
- Enter a descriptive reason for why the page is being protected.
- Click "Confirm".
After you click "Confirm", the protection will be implemented by the MediaWiki software, and it will be logged in the protection log.
In order to unprotect a page, follow the same procedure (except the tab is labeled "unprotect"), but give a reason why the page is to be unprotected.
