A mainsail was a sail on a Bajoran lightship.
In 2371, Benjamin Sisko instructed Jake Sisko to deploy the mainsails on his lightship. Later, he noted that "the starboard spirit is fouling one of the mainsails" and decided to jettison the sprit. Some time after that, they were hit by something which nearly tore off the port mainsail. THen, Jake reported that the lightship had lost its jib and port mainsail. (DS9: "Explorers")
