Malaysia was a region on the southeast Asian continent on Earth. Locations included Kota Bharu and Pulau Langkawi.
Stuart and Mary Reed had lived in Malaysia at some point and moved back to Malaysia, to Kota Bharu, in early 2151, in the weeks before the maiden voyage of Enterprise NX-01. Jonathan Archer contacted the Reeds in Malaysia in 2152 to learn the favorite food of their son, Malcolm Reed. (ENT: "Shuttlepod One", "Silent Enemy")
Captain Philippa Georgiou was from Pulau Langkawi in Malaysia, born there in 2202. According to Michael Burnham in 2257, she had once been there together with Georgiou. (DIS: "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry", "Will You Take My Hand?")
In 2377, Commander Pete Harkins' cousin owned a beach house there. Harkins offered Lieutenant Reginald Barclay to lend it to him, but Barclay declined in favor of visiting Commander Deanna Troi during his vacation. (VOY: "Inside Man")
Malaysia was described as a region in the South China Sea on Earth by the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 13.
Michelle Yeoh, the actress who played Philippa Georgiou, is of Malaysian origin. Yeoh incorporated her native Malaysian accent into her performance as Georgiou.
