A manor house, or mansion, was a type of large house that existed during the American Civil War on Earth.

Q included one in a representation of the Q Continuum, during the Q Civil War, tailored to Starfleet captain Kathryn Janeway, because she was of American descent. (VOY: "The Q and the Grey")

During his second visit to the Shore Leave Planet, Leonard McCoy imagined a large Southern mansion, which upon viewing, he stated, "They just don't make them like that anymore." (TAS: "Once Upon a Planet")

The house from "The Q and the Grey", was described both as a manor house and a mansion, while the Shore Leave planet house was described in the episode's script simply as a "Southern mansion in a plantation area". The style of the former can be pinned down as Greek Revival architecture. The term "manor house" originally referred to the home of the lord on a English manor. Over the centuries, the term's sense expanded, with it being used as well to describe the mansion of a lord or a wealthy person.
