A mashie was a type of golf club used chiefly for short approaches that corresponded to the later five or six iron.

In 2268, Harry Mudd asked for and "used" an imaginary mashie to knock an imaginary explosive away. This was part of a series of pantomimes contrived in order to confuse Norman to the point where his circuits overloaded. (TOS: "I, Mudd")
