Klingon wanting an honorable death

A holographic Klingon character from the Medical Ethics simulation

Medical Ethics was one of the holopod simulations presented by Shari yn Yem during the drills she conducted aboard the USS Cerritos in 2381. According to Yem, the simulation was based on the experiences of various other Starfleet crews.

This simulation was attempted by Ensign D'Vana Tendi. The program started with a Klingon in a sickbay bed requesting that she help him commit Hegh'bat as he had broken his spine picking up a peanut. Tendi initially refused to euthanize him, citing the Hippocratic Oath, but was stricken with a points deduction. Resigning to this, Tendi attempted to use a hypospray to put him down, only for the Klingon to demand that she use his ceremonial knife.

Tendi's refusal to use the knife lead to a further point deduction. The Klingon demanded that she kill him once more, only to fall off the bed, at which point two nurses ran to his aid and attempted to kill him. However, all efforts proved in vain due to the Klingon's redundant organs and the patient lived, much to his dismay. Because of this, Tendi failed the simulation with a score of 24%.

Unknown to the crew, Yem had tampered with the holoprogram so that the entire crew would fail. (LD: "I, Excretus")

This simulation is likely inspired by the events of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Ethics".
