Requesting aid and input

Welcome to the admin noticeboard. This page is used to bring attention to issues of interest to Memory Alpha's administrators. The main purpose of the admin noticeboard is to provide archivists with a simple way to alert admins of issues requiring their attention, such as an active edit war. Additionally, it may be used to solicit admins' opinions in an ongoing discussion, or to update admins about things they might find interesting or that may affect their work on Memory Alpha.

Not everything requiring administrative action should be brought up here. Follow the instructions given by the deletion policy to nominate a page or file for deletion. Use the protection requests page to request that a page be protected or unprotected. Follow the instructions given at Template:Edit request to request an edit to a protected page. Follow the instructions for merging and splitting articles to suggest that two pages be merged or that a page be split. Follow the instructions for renaming articles to suggest that a page be renamed.

Short story authors[]

I've created stub pages for a bunch of short story authors lately. Can someone go over them and check for any formatting errors I might have made? Thanks. -LauraCC (talk) 02:54, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

I've already defaultsorted them until my eyes glazed over, thankfully, although there may be some spacing problems, a stray italic, a missing "and" (if someone had more than one story, I left out the "and" until I'd found them all). Also, I've mentioned all the stories a given author wrote in the bodies of the articles, but they could be made into a list, as some pre-existing pages have done, if you think that's better.

Would redirects from story titles to anthology pages be a good idea in most cases? I realize some were printed in more than one publication (the Star Trek Explorer Presents ones, for instance, in the magazine proper, and later the anthology); in those cases, creating a page to list short stories that were published in more than one publication and list the books in question might be a better idea. -LauraCC (talk) 12:55, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

Startrekpropcollector[]

Any way to convert the links from [1](X)/[2] to the new search engine item details like the following [3]. ‐ Yaroze86 (talk) 15:54, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

Would a bot be able to do that, perhaps? If so, move this comment to Bot requests. -LauraCC (talk) 16:44, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
The problem is that the ID of each item used in the URL has changed with the new URLs (in the example given by Yaroze86, the ID has changed from 6867 to 9594). I don't know of any pattern in how these numbers have changed, so unless someone can find one, it's impossible to do this work with a bot, as far as I know.
That said, I've created a new template, {{stala/new}}. So, you can start replacing links that currently use {{stala}} with {{stala/new}}. Please note, though, that you cannot simply replace something like {{stala|6867}} with {{stala/new|6867}}; you have to replace it with {{stala/new|9594}} (that is, update the ID), which outputs [4].
Once they're all converted, I'll update the main template to use the new URL format, then run my bot to update everything to use the main template again and delete the temporary sub-template.
I'd recommend testing the link to make sure it still works and leads to the right page each time you update one of these links. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 01:38, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

Adding the words "Star Trek" to real world category names[]

See Category talk:Novels#Rename for further details - it would involve multiple pages. -LauraCC (talk) 02:15, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

Maintenance category re-organization[]

See here for a discussion on re-organizing the category "Memory Alpha maintenance". We could use some feedback. -LauraCC (talk) 21:00, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

May updates[]

In case anyone missed this: "Fandom updates - May 2025" -LauraCC (talk) 18:54, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

Starfleet species[]

This redirect was recently changed into a page of its own, with a lot of its information being moved from Starfleet. Is there any clean-up needed? Probably should have undergone a split discussion, too - possibly a re-merge discussion instead. -LauraCC (talk) 18:45, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

Credits for Star Trek: Section 31[]

The changes made to Credits for Star Trek: Section 31, do they seem like vandalize or actual meaningful edit? ‐ Yaroze86 (talk) 01:54, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

Revived or resurrected?[]

Regarding characters who are brought back to life, should we formally use "revived" or "resurrected" in status sidebars? -LauraCC (talk) 22:07, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

I'd say resurrected, since revived can mean things other than a return from death. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 01:28, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

I wasn't sure how long someone would have to be dead before it counted as a resurrection. -LauraCC (talk) 01:30, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Resurrect means "to raise from the dead" [5] so it seemingly doesn't matter how long one's been dead. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 01:48, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
