Deletion rationale[]

1)Are we sure it was footage of him that was used- and 2) the Alan Shepard article has the fact he was in the credits as a background note. In this case, since there was no other reference to McCandless, this article should probably be a real world one. 31dot (talk) 00:12, February 17, 2014 (UTC)

The footage used is not from STS-41-B, note the spacehab payload, so it couldn't be Bruce McCandless. - Archduk3 00:49, February 8, 2018 (UTC)

Discussion[]

  • Delete. -- Compvox (talk) 10:59, February 16, 2018 (UTC)

So who is this person in the picture then? --LauraCC (talk) 18:26, March 2, 2018 (UTC)

Because if we can know, a note, or a move, or a rename would be a better option than delete. --LauraCC (talk) 16:57, April 6, 2018 (UTC)

I am curious how McCandless was identified as the person in the first place. 31dot (talk) 19:50, April 6, 2018 (UTC)
Comment There's one other very real possibility to consider: that the spacewalking astronaut and the space shuttle containing spacehab were separate shots composited together. McCandless performing the first untethered spacewalk during STS-41-B is one of the truly iconic image from the history of spaceflight, exactly the kind of stuff the intro might want to show, but it's just an isolated dude without shuttle, which doesn't fill the screen well and might have needed making more visually interesting . -- Capricorn (talk) 12:01, April 10, 2018 (UTC)
The dates of when the equipment was used would seem to confirm Capricorn's hypothesis. The MMU was only used in 1984 and the first Spacehab was used in 1993.--Memphis77 (talk) 14:30, April 10, 2018 (UTC)
I doubt it's the iconic image, since the left leg is bent. It might be an image from the first untethered spacewalk mission, and therefor McCandless, but it might not be too. - Archduk3 20:17, April 10, 2018 (UTC)

A visual collage then? --LauraCC (talk) 20:21, April 10, 2018 (UTC)

Admin resolution[]

  • Article merged into the NASA personnel page to be retained in the history. Unnamed entry added to that page since this could be at least 6 people. - Archduk3 07:43, September 2, 2018 (UTC)
