Deletion rationale[]

This page is meant to "explain how and why we collect certain information online, and how we use that information," but most of it has more to do with the stuff Fandom collects, not the stuff "we" (Memory Alpha) collects, and that's covered by Fandom's Privacy Policy. Also, this page is only linked from the top navbar, so it's not really cited as our privacy policy much at all.

In short, this is a redundant page left over from when MA was an independent wiki, and we don't need it anymore. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 22:56, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Comment: I suggest this page act as a connecting point from MA to Fandom's privacy policy (if we presume a user getting there has no idea what Fandom is.) Or, this discussion should at least document the other ways a user is expected to find the site's actual privacy policy. We don't have to repeat/summarize/duplicate the Fandom text, but it can be a much shorter page that high-level explains why Fandom's privacy policies are ours - and links there. So if Fandom makes changes to their page, we shouldn't have to update this one too frequently. While keeping the page's history for historical reference. - AJHalliwell (talk) 15:44, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
Fair point. However, I still lean towards deletion. When a user creates a Fandom account, they have to check a box saying they agree to Fandom's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, both of which are linked to (screenshot of signup screen). That's the main point at which all users should read the Privacy Policy. (Additionally, there's a link to it in the global footer.) If need-be, I'm pretty sure we can link directly to Fandom's Privacy Policy in the top nav. I think that's a better idea than keeping the page just to refer you to the actual policy. However, I would be open to keeping the page for historical reference, although I don't personally see much point in it. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 17:16, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
I've tested having the link in the navbar point directly to Fandom's Privacy Policy, and it works. I've reverted back to it pointing to the local page until this discussion is resolved. Any further thoughts? 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 19:53, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Hmmm...makes sense as a redirect, I suppose. I couldn't tell you now what the privacy policy said, so if you need a reminder, I suppose you can find it here easier. -LauraCC (talk) 19:58, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

I don't think it's possible to redirect "Memory Alpha:Privacy policy" to the actual Privacy Policy. I'm suggesting we change the link in the top nav to point directly to Fandom's Privacy Policy, not via a redirect. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 21:19, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Oh. Yeah, that makes more sense. -LauraCC (talk) 21:20, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
