Over time, MA has built up a large number of redirects. These are used for a variety of purposes, and keeping track of them all using the built in list has become impossible. The purpose of this project is to categorize and maintain all redirects in the "main" and "redirect" category trees.
Instructions[]
Redirects already categorized in one of the the "main" category trees should not be further categorized under a redirect category. The general idea is to only categorize each redirect into one category. To that end, redirect categories should be as general as possible. Redirect categories to unnamed lists are handled through the unnamed redirect project.
Generally, the redirect category should align with the target page's category tree. A redirect to a page in the technology category tree would be in the technology redirects category tree. The best way to determine the correct redirect category is to follow the branches of the target page's category "down" until you find a category that matches a redirect category. For example: the Enterprise-C redirect is categorized in the spacecraft redirect category because the target, the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-C), is in Federation starships, which is in starships, which is in spacecraft.
If there are multiple categories in different category trees on the target page, you should generally only choose the category tree most appropriate for the redirect. Redirect subcategories should only be created for a large number of redirects that need to be in more than one redirect category or to keep the number of redirects in any single redirect category below two hundred.
